Valentine Bow Cake

This was a cake that the client wanted to just eat and not cake for any of the decorating part. Therefore, I didnt cover the cake with fondant and tried to get a smooth buttercream look. It was difficult, but more practice will make perfect one day. This was a 8 in square red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream.

Valentine Heart Cake

This was a 10in heart, red velvet cake with white chocolate buttercream. I used the swirl method with the fondant. I also tried the steaming method for my fondant bow.

Odom Laker Cake

My brother wanted a Laker Odom jersey for his 24th birthday that says MVP. This is a red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream. This cake looks big in the picture, but it is only about 7 x 5 x 4. My brother said he was going to bring it to work, but was not going to share.

Brown, pink, green birthday cake

This was an additional cake for my best friend's little cousin. This was a 4 alternating layers of chocolate cake, chocolate amaretto pound cake with chocolate amaretto buttercream. Im not too happy with this cake because it was thrown in the last minute. The bow didnt turn out too well either, but it was a good learning experience.

Adidas Cake

I had to feed 40 people at the party so I decided to add another cake. She loves adidas so I just put the Adidas symbol on a 8 in chocolate amaretto poundcake with chocolate amaretto buttercream. I was so tired after the end of this week. 6 cakes and 5 dz cupcakes in one week on top of my 2 jobs. Im proud of myself!

Purple Velvet Purple Purse

This was a suprise 60th birthday cake for my boss. She really loves the color purple, Coach purses, and cars (she just bought a new BMW). This was a 10 in long, 4 in high purple velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, purple buttercream, and chocolate amaretto buttercream. 5 layers!! It took a long 15 hours to make because of the amount of detail that went on this cake. Also the fact that I had to cookie cutter each "C" and glue it on.

LV cake

This was the most tedious cake I have ever made. This is an anniversary cake. I had to work with what I had at my house, so it is not the exact replica of LV. Im actually proud of this cake and I think it is the best one I have made so far. It is also my favorite recipe so far: chocolate amaretto pound cake with chocolate amaretto buttercream. Yummy!

Superman Key Cake

This cake was for an anniversary cake. All I knew was that her husband likes Superman and she wanted a heart shape cake. So, I altered it a little and came up with this cake and a saying.

Purse Class

I took another class at Let Them Eat Cake today. This was the final product. I couldn't believe that it only took 2 quarter sheet cakes to produce this purse. Plus, it had wonderful fillings such as lemon curd, strawberry mouse, lemon buttercream. Yummy! The class was well worth it!

Brown and blue butterfly

This was a quick cake that I made for my work. I tried an expresso pound cake with Bailey's Irish Cream buttercream. It was a gourmet cake, I must say. You had to be a coffee lover to like the cake. I tried stenciling the royal icing on this one.

Final thoughts for the year

As this year ends, here are some of my final thoughts. I am blessed that I have a very supportive husband who has been patient with me while I spend countless hours doing this time consuming and expensive hobby. I am also blessed with my secure job as a physical therapist during this time of economic hardship. In less than half a year, I have learned a lot and have been humbled in this world of cake decorating. I plan to further take classes so I can learn to create more cakes and perfect my skills. I also want to further share great tasting cakes to those who hate them and hopefully change their opinions. Thank you for your time and have a great new year!

Farm animal themed baby shower cake / cupcakes

Yeah, I finally finished this year with an order for my husband's coworker's baby shower. It was farm animals. I decided to mold fondant into farm animals to match the cupcake picks that I found. I also accented the cake with light blue flowers and baby images. All these were then tied into the cupcakes. The cake was a 5 in. red velvet with cream cheese buttercream. The cupcakes were the same as the cake as well as chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream.

Sugar paste roses and orchids

This has been the busiest and craziest weekend ever because I actually have 6 orders of cakes or cupcakes to do. I pulled through and still managed to work a full day at Kaiser yesterday and take this wonderful class at Let Them Eat Cake in Costa Mesa today.

Learned alot from Margie. Boy, these flowers were tedious, but looked so pretty. No wonder we can charge an arm and a leg for these.

Gingerbread man cake

This was a birthday cake for a 8 yr old boy. He requested cinnamon flavored cake. So, I came up with a cinnamon chocolate cake with cinnamon buttercream. I thought of adding the santa hat to add to the festive holiday season. This was so much easier to carve, frost, and lay fondant over than the hand cake.

Hand cake

Attempted to do a carved cake for the first time. My coworker, Linda passed her CHT exam and I thought it would be cool to make a hand cake. Boy, this was hard to do because of all the curves, from crumb coating to putting the fondant on. I should have left the writing to my husband. Mine is not as good as his. This was a 2 layer red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream, her favorite.

"Chinese Cake"

I called this Chinese cake because of the super red color with gold (no characters though) I made it for my dad and sis-in-law's bday celebration today. I decided to try painting again. The red was made out of super red gel color, vodka, and luster dust. I also tried a marble effect at the bottom. This was a 6 in red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and chocolate buttercream.

Strawberry Shortcake 1st Birthday

This was such a cute cake after everything was done. It was for our coworker's niece's first birthday. Theme was Strawberry Shortcake. I decided to match the color into the cake and cupcakes. The cake was a 6 in round chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. My husband actually wrote on the banner. Covered the cake board in fondant and glued the candle with royal icing. Hopefully the celebrant will enjoy them.

Kaiser Christmas Cake

This was the biggest cake project I have ever made. Jayson volunteered my services for his Christmas party. I decided to do 3 tiers, 3 layers of 8, 10, and 12 in rounds, about 5 in. high. The top two were red velvet with cream cheese, the bottom was chocolate pound cake with chocolate buttercream. To make it more festive, I used xmas cookie cutters for the bow strip. The only thing that went wrong with this one was that the royal icing at the bases melted. Other than that, I spend a good 15+ hours on this cake. Glad it was able to make it to Pasadena, boy it was heavy!

Blue green cake

This blue, green cake is made out of red velvet and my new cream cheese buttercream recipe. It was for Jayson's coworker, Cindy. I took a painting class 2 weeks ago from Let Them Eat Cake of Costa Mesa with Beth. Therefore, I tried painting the color blue for the background using vodka and gel color (as you can tell by the streaks). This was my first time using a square pan.

This is a 8 in. round, birthday cake made out of carrot cake and brown sugar buttercream. I tried to do a drapery effect with ribbons. The super red color was hard to achieve.

This one was a surprise birthday cake. All he requested for were a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and the cake to be natural tone colors (his wife's favorite), the rest was up to me. The carrot cake recipe is a nice simple one, only carrots and walnuts, no raisins! I decided to try ribbons made out of half gumpaste and fondant. The result was amazing, although very delicate.

baby shower cake

This one is for a baby shower I did for my co-worker who was the hostess. It is a 6in. round, red-velvet cake with white chocolate buttercream and a 10in. round, chocolate pound cake with chocolate buttercream. The baby blocks are red velvet petit fours. The blocks were the hardest to work with (as you can tell, its not perfect).

retro lemon cake

This was a 9 in. round, lemon cake with limoncello flavored buttercream. I decided to try this retro look for my co-worker's birthday. The black fondant was difficult to achieve. It was a nice surprise to see a light, lemony coloring inside.

This is the first wedding I did. It was for 6 dozen cupcakes and a bridal cake. The bride wanted gerbera daisies and her theme was black, white, burgundy with accents of orange and yellow with personalization. The daisies were painstakingly time consuming. I made big and small sizes. The couples' initial were imprinted in the big daises. It took me a whole week to do these. The cake and cupcakes were devil's chocolate cake with white chocolate buttercream. Word was, the bride was pleased!

keroppi cake

This was an interesting cake to make. It was for my co-worker's birthday. It was my first time using flood royal icing. The original way of putting it on a sheet protector didn't work, so I had to trace the image straight onto the cake. This cake is a strawberry shortcake made out of vanilla poundcake, homemade whipped cream, and sugared strawberries. Yummy!

bridal shower cupcakes

My friend, Erica, requested some cupcakes for her bridal shower. She didn't care what kind I made so I experimented on some. I tried a fresh mango cupcake with mango frosting. The others were white chocolate raspberry cupcakes and chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream (made out of egg yolk instead of whites). I thought that this came out to be a very colorful display.
